In light of the recent UK Gambling Act

 December 13, 2007, 10:28 am (11 months ago)
In light of the recent UK Gambling Act, set to start enforcements on September 1st, 2007, many UK companies are flocking to Malta in lieu of licensing in the UK.

Among companies set to relocate within the week are big names such as Intercasino, William Hill, Littlewoods, Playboy Casino, and Virgin Games. They plan to provide their online poker and casino services from Malta, and avoid the regulations on advertisements from the UK. Up to 27 international gaming companies have set their sites on Malta with relocation plans.

Currently in the UK, there are 84 gaming companies that have been licensed and 36 companies awaiting the verdict on their license application. Because of the new Act, only companies that have been placed on the approved White List areas, such as Alderney, will be permitted to promote their online gambling services via media advertisements, such as TV and radio.

According to Chief Executive of the Lotteries Gaming Authority, Mario Galea, “Malta is becoming the natural hub of online gaming”. With 76 companies receiving a letter of intent from the UK’s Gambling Commission, and many more who haven’t, it’s a fair bet that Malta will benefit greatly from the Gambling Act, maybe even more than the UK itself.
