Over the last few years, since its beginning in the 1990's

 December 13, 2007, 10:59 am (1 year ago)
Over the last few years, since its beginning in the 1990's, online gambling has seen an enormous growth, and the potential for even more growth is becoming evident. As more and more sites are being added regularly, there are now thousands of online opportunites for the avid gambler.
The US currently has a policy in place to ban all financial activity involving online gambling from American users that was in practice by not legally enforced. The UK, however, has begun regulations on the online gambling industry, allowing operators on the prestigious White List to begin advertising to the public via television, and other media sources, beginning September 1st.
Sweden, with its Svenska Spel, a government operated online casino, is anticipating a 40 percent increase in 2007, on the amount of bets placed on its Internet site. The government’s poker site is expected to rake in a 30 percent increase. Swedish gambling companies are, overall, expected to report a revenue much greater than the more than $5 Billion that was reported for 2004. This kind of profit has other countries reeling to join in Sweden’s fortune. Holland is expected to open around 14 online casinos and poker sites sometime in September. This comes on the tail of signing a deal with Cryptologic earlier in the year.
