A bill attempting to ban the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve to enforce the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act ended in complete failure.
According to Casino City Times, the revision bill approached by Rep. Peter King was discarded by the full committee with a vote of 32 for and 32 against. The original bill supported by representatives Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Ron Paul (R-Tex.) was earlier defeated by a voice vote.
The execution of UIGEA would have been stopped if the King Amendment was accepted and the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve would have been forced to actually explain what constitutes “unlawful internet gambling”. Rep. King articulated that the UIGEA was a banking matter and not a gambling matter and that the banking business was not to blame for judging what was legal and illegal.
