THE TURKISH LOTTO

 September 2, 2008, 9:32 am (2 months ago)
The Greek gambling monopoly OPAP is extending its wings with preparations to tender for the Turkish government's Milli Piyango lotto, which is being privatized. OPAP's captain, Christos Hadjiemmanouil, stated this week that his company, in partnership with Turkish business groups Dogus, which holds Garanti Bank, FIBA and supplier Alarco is submitting a tender.

Having a conversation with the Greek newspaper Daily Kathimerini during the weekend, Hadjiemmanouil explained: "We would like this project, we hope to get into the biggest market in southeast Europe, and we got the capability to take over [Milli Piyango]."

Hadjiemmanouil was confident about the firm's possibilities of success, stating that OPAP had been kindly received by the Turks. "The climate we met was constructive ... there was a comfortable mood and open doors," the executive explained.

But OPAP is not going to have a comprehensible field; also pitching for the lotto are Lottomatica subsidiary GTech, Intralot, the Turkish Koc Group , Austrian Lotteries and Anglo American companies like Scientific Games and Camelot.
