500 arrests in Shanghai

According to the Shanghai Daily newspaper, Chinese government's action in opposition to illegitimate gambling concentrated on the main city and business city of Shanghai this week. More than 500 people said to be either gamblers or operatives of illegitimate gambling facilities were taken into custody.
According to Shanghai Public Security Bureau spokesmen, an extensive police forced entries all over the city had been very successful. Gambling was located at 243 gaming parlors, amongst the 2,254 that were investigated. City police closed 135 parlors without business licenses, and closed 54 provisionally for license infringements, as reported by the police.
