Opinion of Gambling Committee Regarding Implementation of Online Gambling in South Africa

The trade and industrial committee of South Africa has been conducting regular discussions regarding the merits and demerits of regulation and legalization of online gambling operations in their country. On 2nd of March, they have conducted their previous public hearing, which highlighted some of the major issues, such as prevention of illegal gambling operations, under-aged players and money laundering activities.

At present, gambling regulations have put restrictions on operations of all online websites of poker and casino games. However, commission regarding review of online gambling has recommended having fully regulated and taxable online gambling in South Africa. The Chairman of Gambling Committee, Joan Fubbs and Member of Parliament of Hill Lewis has revealed that online gambling activities are already present in South Africa. Therefore, in case the country ignores them, it would result in the exploration of illegal online gambling market in South Africa.
