EC head has denies claims of upholding German monopoly plans

 March 18, 2007, 11:11 pm (1 year ago)
Charlie McCreevy, internal market commissioner of the European Union has refused claims that the European Union was preparing to support Germany's proposed monopoly on sports betting. Head of the state government office Martin Stadelmaier told German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the state monopoly would be approved by next week, though there would be some condition.

Germany's states have to impose ban on private sports betting companies until 2010. By this time period, they will develop a system to provide concessions to private betting companies. Though, this matter has not been finalized yet, said McCreevy.
