PPA announces record membership growth

The Poker Players Alliance is going from strength to strength, according to PPA chairman Alfonse D’Amato, following a 500% increase in membership since the start of the year.

The PPA now has a membership of over 600,000 and is steadily growing closer to its target of 1,000,000.
“In all, we have a lot of momentum, but we still need your help. I just returned from the World Series of Poker, where PPA hosted Congressman Wexler. We saw first-hand the growth and grandeur of the sport of poker, and we asked the WSOP players for their support. They responded in droves, proving that poker enthusiasts are dedicated activists,” said Mr D’Amato in a statement to PPA members.
The Poker Players Alliance is a nonprofit membership organization comprised of poker players and enthusiasts from around the United States who have joined together to speak with one voice to promote the game.

Mr D’Amato added that the group is strongly backing a number of Bills pending in the House of Representatives “that are helpful for on-line poker and our members”.
“We are strongly supporting two of these Bills, Congressman Barney Frank's HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, and Congressman Robert Wexler's HR 2610, the Skill Games Protection Act,” he said.
“Other Bills include Congresswoman Shelley Berkley's H.R. 2410, which calls for a study of Internet Gaming, and Congressman McDermott's H.R. 2607, which amends H.R. 2610 with a revenue component.”
The outcome of these Bills, and especially Congressman Barney Frank's HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, is being awaited anxiously by the gambling industry in the US and, indeed, worldwide.
